Wayne Morris Stanley

Dear Wayne I will miss you - your smile, your wave, your generous spirit. I'll miss our good old "swap a crop" veges, your stories from the garden and the road, and the way you always looked out for me (and Jack Daniels too.) You had a way of making ordinary days a bit brighter, a bit funnier and a lot more down to earth. I am still very shocked you're gone, but I reckon you're somewhere peaceful now, feet up, enjoying a well earned Ranfurly Draught. Thank you for the laughs, the beetroot and for being one of the "good ones" you were a fabulous neighbour. Fly free. Love Karen and Jack.

Wayne you lived an exemplary moral life and you had such a lovely kind soul. I treasure all of the memories we shared together during the 1980's. May you rest in eternal peace my dear old friend and thank you.

Well this sure is a shock to read this funeral notice of the passing of a old friend of mine Wayne Stanley, I have known Wayne Stanley for around 70 years, we meet as pupils at the Wakari School 1955, a Mr. Cornish was our teacher who was a return 2nd World War serviceman, he worn a tweed suit everyday to school. Wayne lived with his older brother Barry and his Mum and Dad in Prospect Bank in lower Wakari. Wayne was in the same trades class 4T2 as I was in at KETC, as was the late John Clark who was a Dunedin Bricklayer who only passed away about two weeks ago now. Wayne like myself also took up a Panelbeating apprenticeship 1961, he did his panelbeating apprenticeship at Clements and Stephens Ltd and he went truck driving for a few years driving for a John Stevenson's Contractors Ltd in Dunedin, then he went back to Clements and Stephens Ltd and he must have worked there for around 40 years as a tradesman Panelbeater. Wayne's Dad worked for Nestle for quite sometime which was based in Crawford Street Dunedin, he was their store-man and he use to help the Wakari School out with a supply of sweets and Chocolate, and Wayne and I decided to run a stall one Saturday morning under their house around 1956, the stall was to make money for the Wakari School, we had lots of sweets and chocolate and home-made baking etc. We had some of local street kids come a late Lindsay Hopwood and his brother, but we had also eaten a lot of the sweets and baking ourselves, we were not in great shape after our stall morning was over. Well I guess we who were lucky enough to be taught in one of those KETC trade classes and like many of those young boys who ended up with trade apprenticeship's. Sadly we who were in the trades class are all getting to that age time to when we move on to a new place, as truly we are really only passing through this world. Working at the panelbeating trade for 40 years is a very long time indeed, and it sure could be very hard physical work at times, so long Wayne and rest in peace my old friend.
