Peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on April 30, 2026.
Dearly loved husband of Leonie (nee Bennett), much loved Dad of Cleveland, Lana, Chris and Cass, loved Grandad of Samantha; Matt, Georgia, and Jacque, loved 'GG' of Axel; and Landon. A loved brother, brother-in-law and uncle of the extended Tait family and loved brother-in-law and uncle of Aloma* and John, Linden* and Judy, Reva and Ron and their families (* denotes deceased).
Special thanks to Dr Steve Searle, Nurse Mary and the team at Green Island Family Healthcare, Otago Community Hospice staff and the daily Carers for the wonderful care and support shown to Russell.
In keeping with Russ' wishes, his body has been donated to medical research. A private family gathering will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Otago Community Hospice would be appreciated.

To Leonie and Family I was very sorry to hear of Russ's passing. He was great company at Bonsai meetings and I know he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Please accept my Deepest Sympathy With Deepest Respects Bob Reid

I worked with Russ for 30 years and he was a great guy. It was a pleasure to have known him. My condolences to Leonie and family.
Condolences Leonie. It only seems like the other year that we were young marrieds and Russell and yourself attended our wedding to record it on film. Therefore It was with sadness that I read of Russell's passing in the ODT on Saturday. Russell had obviously fought a long fight with his illness no doubt due to the excellent care you were able to give him in his declining years, Russell will be sadly missed and I am sure the lovely memories you are sharing of "life with Russell" will help sustain you at this sad time. On behalf of Parkinson's Otago I wish to extend our deepest sympathies to Leonie and family. Russ was only with our exercise group for a short time but he was always ready to accept the challenges and new ideas and we were sorry when he stopped coming. Leonie we are always here for a chat in the days to come and you know you are always welcome in our circle. Carol Tippett.
