Russell James (Russ) McBride

There is not enough time or words to express how much Russell meant to me and so many others. But if I had to say who he was in a sentence , I’d say Russell was a man of great integrity. He was a role model to so many and I will miss him deeply. He always managed to see the good in people, his kind caring nature was infectious and I will always love that about him. He left behind a trail of tears and precious memories I will hold on to and cherish for years to come. Gone but never forgotten, always in my heart ❤️

A good buggar gone way too early. We will miss our reminiscing about the old days, from early childhood living in Halfway Bush, when you first married, parties in Mornington, moving onto Concord where Russell made a T Ball Stand and all the neighbouring children down on the park learning how to hit the ball etc, he had the patience of a saint, never a grumpy word or raised voice. We will certainly miss catching up for a chat and good laugh. Sending big hugs to Sheryl, Rach and Bex and partners xx

Russell was a man full of quiet strength, wry humour and enormous integrity, love and loyalty. I loved being the third daughter for my years in Otago (many years ago now) where I would come for Sunday dinners and Russell would check if Craig had put a ring on my finger yet….that still makes me smile x His hard-fought battle is over but his legacy of selflessness will remain forever. Rest in peace lovely Russell. ❤️

So sorry to hear about Russell. I wish Sheryl, Rach & Bex and family lots of love through this horrible time. I remember a gorgeous man, who loved his girls so much. Sending you all lots of hugs.

I have very fond memories of growing up in Concord and Russ being my first ever softball coach, a man who taught me so much about a sport that become a big part of my life for many years, a dedicated coach, mentor and friend who was always up for a friendly chat. Sending hugs to you: Bex, Sheryl, Rach and the wider family. My heart is literally breaking for you all. So many core teenage memories have flooded in this week and been shared with my family up here. I was so lucky to be welcomed in by Russell (and Sheryl of course), he/they had such a massive influence on ‘growing’ me. Russell was always quietly being strong and ‘safe’ amongst the chaos of ‘his girls’. So grateful to have been a part of that chaos and strength. Thank you Russ!!

Very Sad to hear of the Passing of a Very Good Man , a Friend from Softball Days with Ellis Park , and a Great Supporter of his Family . I was so saddened to hear of Russell’s passing. He was a truly great man, and his presence will be deeply missed. I’ll always remember Russell for the way he showed up for Rach and Bex on the softball diamond—so proud and so supportive. Whether he was coaching, lending a hand, or cheering from the sidelines, he was always there with encouragement, guidance, and genuine joy in everything they did. He gave so much to the Ellis Park Softball community, especially to the junior teams—always willing to help and always going above and beyond for the club. He was the kind of person every club hopes for: dedicated, generous, and quietly putting others first. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time.
