Ross Grimmett

to Ross's family: I am so grateful to have known Ross within both the university and the world of the theatre. He was witty and welcoming, enjoying everybody's company and making us all laugh. He will be much missed. In 2007, Gilbert and Sullivan in Dunedin was the benefactor of his clever rewrite of Koko's "little list" song in "The Mikado" - when referring to our city council "... it really doesn't matter who you put upon that list/ they'll none of 'em be missed, they'll all be Van der Vissed." In our first season (2002), Ross may very well have been the first in the world to have created our Sorcerer's illusions of sprites, fiends and demons through on-stage chemical reactions. Inspired! May I also honour in passing at this poignant time Ross's sister Wendy and her beautiful soprano voice, sadly taken from us far too young "a many years ago". From those shared musical-theatre productions with her back in the '60s and '70s to more recent community activities with Ross, the warmest of memories will remain with me of two notable Grimmetts. One of the wisest, kindest and funniest grandads! Lots of love from Dubai, Ross and family. Very sad I can't be there in person to attend. I can imagine you are fishing and preparing some fantastic lectures up in the sky with Anne. The memory of Jiffy Eggs in the morning and Sultana Pasties in the afternoon will live on!
