On June 7, 2026, peacefully at Dunedin Hospital, surrounded by family; aged 87 years.
Dearly loved husband of Pam, much loved Dad of David and wife Gillian, Gordon and partner Katrin, Jennifer and partner James, grandfather of Hannah, and Niamh, dear brother of Ella*, and Keith, brother-in-law of Easton*, Margaret, Stuart*, and Kate, uncle of Larainne, Easton, Andrew, Kenneth, Katherine, Nickie, and Keith* (*denotes deceased). Heartfelt thanks to Dr Matthew Hamilton for the wonderful care and kindness he showed to Robert, especially over this last year. Thank you also to the St John Ambulance staff, the team on Wards 7C and 8A at Dunedin Hospital, Dr Fought and the Otago Community Hospice, and Robert’s dedicated home care team. We deeply appreciate you all.
A service for Robert will be held in Hope and Sons Chapel, 523 Andersons Bay Road, Dunedin, at 2pm on Monday, June 15, followed by private cremation. Messages can be left below where there is a link to view the service.

We we only met Robert several times but remember him as a so positive , funny and lovely person you will not forget. We wish the family the best and are with our thoughts close to you, Uli, Gregor, Jule and Gustav
What a true inspiration Rab was to all who crossed his path. His love of family, football and even above football, Hib's of course. I knew Rab in the late 60's at Roslyn Wakari but for too short a time, moving away from Dunedin in the early 70's, however in almost every trip "home" over the last 50 years we would catch up, normally at the club for a quiet drink and a yarn. For years he kept me in touch with what was happening in Dunedin football via his web page and emails. You will be missed Rab, but never forgotten. Vale old friend.
A Roslyn Wakari man at heart but did so much to promote football in Otago. In football speake rab was the "chosen one". My condolences to the family.
I feel privileged to have met and supported Robert, only a couple of times. I remember his beautiful smile, on the day I was wearing a green jersey with a big sparkling star on the front. My thoughts are with you and your family Pam. Kind regards, Brenda
Hi Pam. I was saddened to hear of Roberts passing. Please accept my condolences and pass them on to Jen, Gordon and David. He was a fine colleague and mentor in my earlier days at the Library Bindery, he was such a good craftsman and he taught a lot me skills that I carried with me until my retirement. At present I am overseas and regrettably will not be able to attend Mondays service, but I will make every effort to stream it. I know that you all have many great memories of Robert and I am sure he will be missed. Regards Don.
