Rest peacefully dear Pete. You were one of the most engaging and interesting people I’ve had the privilege to call my friend. Thank you for introducing me to some of the best bbqs The kettle could produce. Your collection and knowledge of music was outstanding. Thank you for being my friend. The world has lost a gem 💎. Deepest sympathies to Trina & Alice & Kate.

I first met Peter in the early 80”s, through a common good friend, Willem Fuchter. Peter had taken on an assignment for SMDC, based in Lac La Ronge, Saskatchewan. It was the an end of the road town, but Peter persevered. We next met in Auckland in the mid-80’s. We organised a dinner with my friend, Peter and Joanne’s (my ex) friend, Trina. We weren’t trying to set them up, but rather we wanted to host one dinner, not two. So we were really surprised and pleased to hear several years later, that Peter and Trina, were a couple. Perfect! We kept in touch as our families’ grew up. After Peter’s MND diagnosis, we met in Dunedin last April. Peter had arranged a field trip to Santana Minerals’ gold project in Central Otago. It was great to get in the field for us old geologists. I am left with memories of Peter, a warm soul who never denigrated anyone and always saw the positive. I will always remember that mischievous grin and twinkling eyes. I’m lucky to have known you. Wayne

I met Pete at Rhodes, and we became friends for life. A man whose values simply deepened over time, and whom one could meet after 20 years and pick up the friendship immediately. His compassion for people was always evident in his words and his deeds. He loved his family, cared for others and was an amusing and generous companion at all times. I do not remember seeing him without optimism, and one always sensed he believed in the goodness of all people. Marja and I will miss him so much. Go well, Homan. Ja, boet.

Our deepest sympathy to Trina, Kate and Alice. May treasured memories help you through this difficult time. We met Pete at Rhodes University when we were in our late teens. While Pete worked in Canada he came to visit us a few times. He was always jovial and humorous. We shall miss our occasional chats. The world has lost a beautiful person. Rest in peace dear friend. We always smile when we think of Pete. We loved receiving his humorous emails – videos, cartoons etc! We enjoyed some lovely social times with him and Trina over the 30+ years we have known each other, since the birth of the eldest children in both families. Always full of interesting anecdotes, Pete opened our eyes to the world of geology and mining. And we shared a love of red wine - and his special liqueur containing gold flakes! Not only was Pete an interesting person, he was also kind, warm, and generous; a loving father and husband; a thoughtful friend to our family. Pete will always be missed and remembered with affection. Deepest condolences to you Trina, Alice and Kate. xxx

I send you my deepest condolences to Trina, Alice, Kate and family on Pete’s passing. Pete was a good friend for nearly 50 years. I have greatly valued his friendship, company and contact through all those years. He was a fine, articulate man of sharp intelligence, great loyalty and brilliant humour.

Peter was a long-time friend and associate who helped me with research and publishing issues, particularly those produced on the NZ mining and political scene. My wife and I got to know Trina and the daughters who were fondly loved by Peter. I shall miss his regular emails on matters mining, NZ, South Africa and Canada -- all areas he operated in.
