A Memorial Service for Max will be held at the Lake Dunstan Boat Club, Partridge Road, McNulty Inlet, Cromwell at 1pm on Friday January 9, 2026. Messages can be left on Max's page at below, where there is a link to the livestream.

To Shirley and Family We were sad to hear of the death of Max; he will be a big loss to you. Please accept sincere condolences from the Alexandra Harriers and Walkers Club. Max was an active member of the Club for many years and played an integral part in its organisation especially as the President of the Club in 2007 and 2008. Max was always good value on walks the Club arranged around Central Otago. He made many friends through the years and is fondly remembered by many. I live in Golden View Lifewstyle Village in Cromwell. I used to walk with Max until on day about 7 years ago he came to me and said the walks were beyond him and would I take over from him. To begin with he wa sincredibly supportive, offering ideas for the walks and also ideas of places in which to have coffee. Over time he offered ideas for coffee and ofteen asked where we had walked. The walks continue but the number of participants is falling as we age. this yaer I was voted onto the Residents Committee and currently serve as it's Chairoerson. In November we held a Melbourne Cup Day. I am very please to tell you that we approached Max and asked if he was happy to speak about the horsesa nd their riders before the Race, Max agree and on the day turned up looking very smart. He apologised for not standing to address us and sat down and eloquently delivered a summary of the horses in the Race adding his tips for the Race. H e was spot on and the horse won. Max always took an interst in Village life, joining in where ever he was able. He alos took a keen interst in my daughter's Pharmacy carrer (she is a Pharmacist.) We will miss Max. Our lifes have been enriched through knowing him.
