Peacefully, on July 23, 2025, at Dunedin Hospital, with family by his side; aged 88 years. Dearly loved husband of the late Jean, Much loved father and father-in-law of Anne and Bryan Dobson, Steve and his partner Rachel, adored Grandfather of Matthew and Sophia, Jason and Maddy, Tanya and Alasdair, loved brother of the late Tom, John, Pat, Sheila, Josie, May, Madge, and Rose, loved uncle to his nieces and nephews, friend to many. Thank you to the staff of Dunedin Hospital, and Dr John Edmond for their love and care.
A celebration of Mattie's life will be held in Hope and Sons Chapel, 523 Andersons Bay Road, at 11 am, on Friday, August 1. The service then leaving for Green Park Cemetery. Messages to 14 County Road, Kaikorai, Dunedin 9010, or on Mattie's page below.

We were shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Mattie. It was an honour to get the invite to Matthew and Sophia's wedding last October, and to get the chance to come over to New Zealand and spend precious time with Mattie and his family. Thank you for all the great memories, and always been to generous with your time. It meant more than you will ever know. Mattie you were incredibly bright, funny and caring, you will be hugely missed by so many. Our deepest sympathy go out to Anne, Bryan, Matthew, Jason, Tanya and Stephen. We hope all the great times and wonderful memories will get you through your darkest days. Mattie touched so may peoples lives and will always be in our thoughts. RIP Mattie gone but not forgotton.
