Peacefully at Dunedin Hospital on September 17, 2025, surrounded by his family; aged 79 years.
Loved partner and lifelong friend of Wendy, loved Dad of Becky, Katie and Tracey, Amber and Tyson, Jay and Amy, Sharna and Nevah, Kevahn and Nika, Cobie*, Vahni, Cajun and Ellie, much loved Poppy of all his grandchildren, Dante, Harmony, Hope, Mason, Marley-Jay, Honey, Latrell, Katelyn, Kahu, Nevaeh, Dillique, Kapua, Chrysler, Ghiahn, Acacia, Kora, Jet, and Grace (*Denotes deceased).
- A celebration of John's life will be held in the Maniototo Stadium, 1 Dungannon Street, Ranfurly, at 1pm on Monday September 22, followed by interment at the Ranfurly Cemetery. John will be resting at home from Friday morning for immediate family only, until Midday Saturday at which time his casket will be closed and visitors are then welcome to the house, 2 Dungannon Street, Ranfurly.

Hi John, Trevor here, your old school friend. I was so sorry to hear that you had left us, and sorry it's been a while since we had a catchup. Gosh, our old school years, so very many years ago. But they seem so bright as we get older. It was you got me started playing guitar, the one you bought and struggled with, so you let me learn instead. And remember the electric guitars we made in woodwork at school? And they worked! And when I met up with Sandra Carson, and married her, you were our groomsman in our wedding party. One of your few times in a suit no doubt! My married and work life took me away from Ranfurly, to Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, and our lives went off in those different directions, and so the years go by. We didn't have social media to keep in touch in those days. But in later years when Sandra and I would visit Ranfurly, you will remember us calling in on you at Dungannon Street, always ready with a coffee and a packet of biscuits. Regrets, I've had a few, and one is that I didn't keep in touch with you more, But, such is life. I'll definitely call in to see you at your resting place when I'm next in Ranfurly, whenever that may be. Rest in peace John. Always good memories of our friendship.
