So sorry to read your news on Facebook notifying the death of John, seeing you connected again with your brother before his passing was pleasing to read as the last time I talked with your mum, she had told me that the family had gone through a disconnect and how it had saddened both your parents. I meet your parents not long after they settled in Dunedin and John had left his employment at Reillys Towage to started work at Ray Gardner Panelbeaters in Manor Place Your Dad and I worked side by side in our working bays and soon started a friendship which lasted for some years, he later left and worked for Modern Caravans, he talked me into following him there. John always had a bit of a side venture going on and he was making bedroom furniture for home in a quiet corner of the factory.. But these are different memories of a close friend at the time. John and Jean were so proud of their sons (before your time Ian) and I have memories of your Mum bring the boys into the workshop often, especially on a Saturday when we would be there doing our perk jobs and your dad would push and push a few of us to come and watch young John play football at the ground by the Gardens NEV.I spent many hours at your home working with your Dad in Rockside Rd on the house and kicking a ball in the backyard with John and Paul. So glad you reconnected as brothers before his passing and knowing that he will now be reconnecting with your Mum and Dad My thoughts are with you at these hard times. Warren Perry
