MITCHELL, Janet (nee Machejefski)
Peacefully at home on October 23, 2025; aged 84 years. Dearly loved wife of the late Stuart, much loved Mum of Sarah, and James, and Mother-in-law of Roopali, Grandmother of Ellora, Sefton, sister of Margaret and the late John, loved aunty of her nieces and nephews. Thank you to the staff of Otago Community Hospice for their love and care.
A Service will be held in All Saints Anglican Church, Cumberland Street, Dunedin, at 11am, on Wednesday, October 29, followed by private cremation. Messages to 19 Como Street, Maori Hill, Dunedin 9010.

Dear Sarah and James: This note is sent with love to you both and your family. Janet came to my yoga and sound bath, meditation and relaxation practices. I enjoyed her acquaintances during my two trips to Dunedin. In her last email to me, she was looking forward to practicing together again this December, even though she was carrying her cancer diagnosis. I am very sad that she has passed. I, and all of her yoga friends, will miss her very much. I appreciated her curiosity, humor and kindness. My card from the U.S. will arrive in some weeks to the Dunedin address, but in the meantime, I am sending you strength and healing for the time ahead.
Dear Sarah, dear James, in lack of your private e-mail address I am using this way to let you know that Eva and I are very sad to hear of your mother‘s passing. We are so pleased having had and used the chance to meet her and her sister Magret during our time traveling in New Zealand. To me it always was important to know that with Janet (and Margret) there is continuation of the „Vogel“ family in New Zealand. And I loved to share our life here and her life there, first through letters, later through e-mails. I hope that we can continue what your mother and I once had astablished. It was a privelige to have met Janet. I'm grateful for the hospitalily Janet showed me and my wife when we stayed in Ohau. I'm sure her presence will continue to be felt there. It is clear that Janet was an intelligent, strong and stylish woman, and a caring and supportive mother and grandmother. My thoughts and prayers are with you Sarah, James, Roopali, Ellora, Sefton and all the family during this difficult but special time. Kia kaha
We are so very sad to hear of Janet's passing. On behalf of everyone at the Department of Food Science, I want to express our deepest sympathies. Janet was a wonderful and dedicated lecturer with us for many years.
