On August 2, 2026, peacefully at Dunedin Hospital with his family by his side; aged 91 years.
Beloved husband of the late Anne, much loved Dad of Fergus, Megan, Brigit, and Hunter, much loved Grandad of Freddie, and Laura, a loved brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend to many, best mate of his dog Storm. Special thanks to all the staff of Ward 8C, Dunedin Hospital, for their amazing care and kindness to Ian.
A celebration of Ian's life will be held in Hope and Sons Chapel, 523 Andersons Bay Road, Dunedin, at 2pm on Saturday, August 8, followed by private cremation. In lieu of flowers donations to The Heart Foundation would be appreciated and may be left at the service.

Some of my earliest memories are with the Coleman family. Your Mum and Dad were the most fun people to be around. I have a lot of happy memories of weekends at the farm in Te Kuiti, riding horses, getting involved in whatever was happening on the farm that day, and sharing a meal around a table filled with laughter. Hello Fergus Megan Brigit and Hunter. Please accept my sincere sympathy for the loss of your Dad Ian. I have very fond memories of the times we spent together in Te Kuiti and the times we stayed with he and Ann in Te Anau and Dunedin. I enjoyed his Christmas letters and the way you travelled with him to many places in recent years made his later life extremely interesting.
