Wonderful to hear about Hugh’s early life growing up, terrible to hear of his suffering in more recent years. I didn’t know he was unwell. I didn’t know he had died. He was my half brother, nobody told us.

Thank you to all who spoke yesterday at Hugh's service, it was lovely to see and hear of the lived experiences of those who loved Hugh and who Hugh loved. The tales of kindness, curiosity, sardonic humour and high achievements resonated with me as they also have been my experiences of Hugh, one of the most introspective and deeply empathetic people I have had the good fortune to call my friend. I am so sad for all of us who lost this good person in our lives. He is missed dearly.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences for Hugh's passing. Hugh and I studied together at Otago and Hugh was always up for a good chat and debate with a twinkle in his eye. The funeral service was such a loving tribute to Hugh and his gentle, calm and solid way with the world.

My heartfelt condolences to the Sheehan Family. Hugh was such a consummate Physiotherapist; his knowledge of anatomy was amazing. I was lucky to have prepared him a meal that he enjoyed. We shared the love of Switzerland and Waterskiing. Knowing that he is with his Dad, gives comfort. Bless you all so much. With Love Jacqueline

To Jan, Julie-Ann and family thank you for the gift of Hugh/ Hughsy, Hugo. I, like many others at Consultancy House Clinic, had the absolute pleasure of working side by side with Hugh for 10 years - we laughed, shared the odd dirty joke, talked films, music, books, adventures, swapped plants, discussed renovations and alternately the challenges of supporting your patients but looking after yourself too. Today I enjoyed hearing so much of the detail and breadth of his achievements as they were many - but safe to say he kept his prowess at the cello a secret Go well knowing that Hugh was a beautiful, kind, caring, smart, funny man who achieved so much and is loved by so many xx

Our sincere condolences to Jan and the Sheehan Family. While a pupil at Sir Hubert Murray International School in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, it was clearly obvious, even from an early age, that Hugh possessed many talents, both academically and in the sporting arena. As one of his teachers back then, I fondly remember him as a very capable student with an enquiring mind and an avid interest in the natural world and science. He had much to offer the world and has been taken way too soon. Our family mourns with you. Love and blessings, Geoff Rudsdale and Family.

Hugh was and will always be an amazing cousin and friend. Growing up together he showed a true gentleness and wisdom beyond his years. He reminded me a lot of Uncle Maurice - quietly spoken, thoughtful and intelligent. Forever missed and treasured. Hugs and all my love to Aunty Jan, Kate, Matthew, Dalila, Eleanor, Craig, Rebecca, Dan and Emily.

I am so sad to hear of Hugh's untimely passing. We went to Otago university together. Hugh always had the biggest smile and time for a chat. He was a truly lovely guy. My deepest condolences to all of his family.

Sad to hear of the passing of Hugh. He was a good dude, always keen to chat climbing, even if he did mock me for not being a real climber and "just a boulderer". He helped fix several climbing injuries of mine, always with a high level of care, compassion, and professionalism. My condolences to the Sheehan family - RIP, Hugh.

We had the privilege to get to know Hugh over the last ten years during his visits to Europe. He was a warm caring individual with an appetite for life. Our hearts and condolences go out to all his friends and family, most especially Julie Ann. We can't be with you in person for this celebration of Hugh's life, but we are both most certainly with you in spirit, now and in the months and years to come. Huge hugs. Andy and Lise
