Time stands still for no-one...even brilliant welders like you! Garry, you were a tutor for me at Polytech, and we have been friends since then... something like 35 years ago now since we first met! It was great to catch up with you and Linden last year at Middlemarch, and I have no doubt that we will meet again in another realm!

We were so sorry to hear that Garry had passed away .We were hoping so much that being Gary and, having determined to battle he could be successful. He was such a larger - than-life character in so many ways,loving his family,involved over the years in varied sports and a wide range of activities, generous in passing on his exceptional welding and practical skills and support to family and friends. I remember the rumble of his entire bikie 'gang'roaring up to Dig's up -til -then sedate family wedding at Millbrook and his dropping in to visit in some of his earlier 'orienteering 'forays. With so much energy and so much involvement in life he was the last person we would have expected to be ambushed. Cancer is such a cruel thief. We send our deepest condolences to family and friends as you gather on Friday to both mourn and celebrate Garry's life. We will miss you, Garry. Jan and John

Well Garry I was a quite shocked to get a email from Neville telling me about your passing, as you know Neville worked with the both of us at Otago Polytechnic up Stuart Street where there sure was some great teaching done as it truly was then, a true trade teaching Technical Institute, the old KETC building was old, but it had true trade teaching foundations, none of todays crazy woke teaching as there in practiced today. I can remember that Thursday afternoon in around 1974 getting that workshop B ready for that 7pm welding night class, and the late Bob Stephenson coming into the workshop to tell me, that the Otago Polytechnic Council had appointed you last night before, to be our new welding Tutor. After you started we moved into teaching the Fitter welding apprentices to the MOW 4711 all positions Arc welding standard and you got the late Bob Anderson who was a MOW Welding examiner to help us, and good things really did happen. Later Mike Smith was appointed and he came onto the Tutor welding engineering team, and really there was some great welding skills intern taught and gained by all our trade apprentices, they were truly great teaching years thinking back about it Garry, but sadly today, its lost and gone. I be watching your service on the Livestream Garry, I must you sure go yourself a great motor bike and it looked like it was your pride and joy, so long Garry
