On Sunday, March 15, 2026, peacefully at home with Grace by his side.
Beloved and loving husband of Grace for 64 years, much loved Dad and father-in-law of Bob and Nicole, Christine and Bruce, Adele and Mark, Adi and Jeff, Jenny and Ade, loved grandad of Isaac and Felicity, Duncan and Sarah; Sarah, Jonathon, Michael, and Jasmine; Jake and Cara, Ella and Daniel; Joe, Seb, and Paddy, great-grandad of Amelia, Sophie, and James, loved brother, brother-in-law and uncle of the Officer and Pike families.
A service for Eric will be held in Hope and Sons Chapel, 523 Andersons Bay Road. Dunedin, at 2pm on Thursday, March 19, followed by private cremation. In lieu of flowers donations to Hato Hone St John would be appreciated and may be left at the service or below. Messages can be left below where a livestream of the service may also be viewed.

Oh Grace and family, my heart just aches for you all. Mr Officer was such a special, beautiful man who became a big part of my life. I loved chatting with him and looking at his paintings — he was so talented. Sending you all so much love and the biggest hugs xx Julie.

The Officer Family It Was With huge sadness we learnt of Eric's passing. A friend and work colleague of Eric over 40 years we had a huge amount of respect and regard for Eric. he hade a huge joy and love for his family, and took a great interest in others. I remember Eric as a very kind man, dedicated to his family and his profession. He will be very sadly missed by a wide and diverse group of people. My sincere sympathy to Grace and all the family.
