WEST, Eleanor Patricia - peacefully on September 30, 2025, with family by her side; aged 78 years. Dearly loved wife of Malcolm, much loved mother of Claire, Edwin, and Duncan, mother-in-law of Wayne, and Sarah. Cherished Nana of Alix, Abi, Tomas, Ava, Hamish, and Henry. Loved wee sister of Claire.
-- A Memorial Gathering for Eleanor will be held in Olveston Historic Home, 42 Royal Terrace, at 2pm on Wednesday October 8, 2025.

Dear Malcolm Claire Duncan and Edwin, I last met you all in 1987 when we visited for a couple of days. Peter and I were travelling around NZ and thought we would catch up with the only family we had there! Claire was a gorgeous teenager and Edwin and Duncan wee boys. Eleanor wanted so much to show off Dunedin to us and took us out in the car for a jaunt. Everywhere we went that day was closed. Despite the disappointment we laughed and said we will always remember Dunedin because it was shut! I knew Eleanor would be kind and accomodating to a stranger cousin as her dad .. my Uncle James had been so kind to me and my brother and sisters when we were wee. Am so very sorry for you all and would like to thank you for your memorial tributes to Eleanor. She was very special. With greatest sympathy Bronwen x
I worked many hours at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery, and at Toitu Otago Settlers Museum with Eleanor, and I always looked forward to them because I knew she would be there. She was so funny, and gentle and kind. She had a special kind of grace and a spark of wit and humour, an ability to see the funny side, that made it a real pleadure to spend time with her. And the loveliest, softest accent. I thought she was beautiful, inside and out, and I valued her companionship immensely. I am deeply saddened by her passing. I know she rests in peace.
To Malcolm and Family, I am deeply sorry to hear about the loss of Eleanor recently. I only knew Eleanor for a short time, but we spent many moments together and had a bond that I won’t ever forget. May she be at peace and resting in love. Samara Scholten.
I’m sending Eleanor’s family and friends my deepest sympathy on the loss of a wonderful woman. I spent many happy shifts at Olveston with her and remember her as a most generous, warm, funny and beautiful person. It is with great sadness that I have learned of her death. To Malcolm, Claire, Edwin, Duncan, and your extended family. Our thoughts are with you all at this very sad time. We have known Eleanor since 1987 when over 20 of us enrolled for a 6 week Polytechnic Course, called New Horizons. After its completion we continued to catch up twice a year enjoying lunches, outings, weekends away, visiting many interesting places, and having fun! Eleanor was always an active member of our group and we enjoyed her company and her kind and gentle nature. We will miss her! With love, from the New Horizons ‘Girls’ of 1987.
