A beautiful service, filled with fishing stories, fitting for Doug. I received Doug's approval to join the family when I first poured him a rum on the 2018 America trip for Gilly's 60th - a Doug's sized pour as Malcolm alluded to. THAT nose and THAT laugh (the cackle has been heard once or twice) live on in Rob...though not yet in Brianna. I will miss Doug.

To Judith and family, So sorry to read the newspaper in the passing of Doug. When we took over The Village Inn, in Te Anau, Doug was our assistant manager. He gave us a lot of advise on how to run the hotel, where to get contacts, where to find things, maintenance jobs etc. He was a very kind, witty person, and nothing was a problem. Our sympathy to you all.

Judith, so sad to read about Doug, our thoughts are with you and Marilyn, have fond memories of our time at Bin Inn. Best wishes from June and Arthur.

Dear Judith and family Sending my deepest sympathy at the passing of Douglas. WE met many years ago Judith through Young Farmers - I am Douglas's cousin, now living in Sydney (Susan Lamb, Bob and Jean Lamb's daughter, same age as Marilyn) and while I haven't seen Douglas for many years I have happy memories of days when were young. I'm sad that we lost touch. Thank you for sharing his life today - he was a fine man and has left so many hearts full of joy. I have wonderful memories of Uncle Matthew and I know he would be proud of the man Douglas became and the wonderful legacy that he has left behind. Blessings to you all, Sue Walker

For Douglas I'd like to say a few words about someone who meant a great deal to me—my brother-in-law. He was, without question, a good man. A man of strong morals and unwavering ethics. The kind of person who didn’t just talk about doing the right thing—he lived it every day. He was someone you could rely on—steady, thoughtful, and always willing to lend a hand. When Isabelle and I were building our home, he didn’t hesitate to step in. He gave his time, his energy, and his expertise without expecting anything in return. That house will always carry a piece of him in its walls—and in our hearts. He had a way of taking on the hardest tasks, the ones most people might shy away from. But he approached them with quiet confidence—and more often than not—with a smile. It wasn’t just about getting the job done; it was about doing it right, and doing it together. He was deeply loved by his wife Jude, his sons and the entire family. You could see it in the way they looked up to him, talked with him, and stood beside him. He gave that love back with kindness, integrity, and a sense of calm strength that made everyone around him feel grounded. We’ll miss him dearly. But we’ll carry forward his example—his character, his generosity, and his quiet courage.

Thinking of you Jude & family. Doug was a great guy. We share many found memories of our time at Carters - when Doug was out in the timber yard, such a hard worker and always there to help his mates and customers. ( Rest in peace Doug - hope the fish our running up there) 🎣🛥️
