Dearest Robyn and family, What a beautiful celebration of Aunty Doreen and her amazing, inspirational and very full life. Such a wonderful lady who will be sadly missed but never forgotten. I can hear her infectious giggle right now as I write this. Robyn, Aunty Doreen has always been a part of my life since our lives intertwined way back in the ballet comps of the 70's and then continuing on as we trained and danced together, continuing our passion into teaching. Every time I visit home she was always thrilled to see me, chat, and catch up on all my news. But Aunty Doreen and Betty also had a connection with my mum Noeline Stoddart (nee McLeod) and all her McLeod sisters through netball and cricket back in the day. Dear Butler & Sinclair families I was very sad to hear that Doreen has passed. I worked with Doreen during my time at Dunedin Netball Centre and she was an amazing lady. Her knowledge was outstanding and she helped me out quite alot, especially when it came to understanding umpire draws! Doreen was an outstanding supporter of netball - for players, umpires, coaches and those on the sidelines. Much aroha Kathryn

The many years that she selflessly put into Dunedin Netball and netball in Otago will never be forgotten. I have so many fond memories of Doreen. She will be sadly missed by all. Dear Robyn and Family. So saddened to read of Doreen's passing away. Doreen was my Netball coach when I played netball for Albion netball club for a number of years . She was a very kind and caring and dedicated coach. No matter what level I played at for the club she was always on the side lines watching all our games, cheering and encouraging us on. "That's my girls " I am very grateful for her coaching and the opportunities she gave me to play in various teams. Crikey some Saturdays I was playing 3 games of netball playing for my own team and filling in as a replacement in other teams - some very high up in the grades to. I enjoyed it so much and learnt some much from her. , During those days we practiced under lights outside and played outside on a Saturday. No matter the weather Doreen and Betty were always there. She always encouraged and Had kind words to say to me with my Umpiring too. Years later after stopping playing netball due to knee injuries , I periodically worked on the score bench at times with my mother the late Margaret Weatherall .During this time I was heartened to see and come across Doreen still in the netball scene. Time hadn't aged her at all and she was still very much involved in the Dunedin Netball scene and became a local netball legend My Mum as did I had a lot of time for Doreen and appreciated all the hard work and time she gave to Dunedin Netball. She was a real asset to the region. I remember her chatting about family life and how proud she was of you Robyn with your dance career and dance school. For memory it was Ballet. Netball provided a place of comradery , which Doreen revealed in and everyone loved and appreciated her too as did My mother and my self. It has been a great pleasure and honour to have known Doreen. Rest peacefully special lady. When one becomes a memory , these memories become a treasure. Treasure the special memories of Doreen you have of her , to get yourself through these difficult times. Dear Robyn and family, I am deeply saddened to hear of Doreen’s passing and wanted to extend my heartfelt condolences to you and your family during this time. Doreen was truly one of Dunedin Netball’s greatest icons, and her presence in the community was nothing short of legendary. She was a constant source of kindness, knowledge, and strength, and her dedication over the years was unparalleled. On a personal note, Doreen was an incredible support during my time as Chair of Dunedin Netball. Her wisdom and commitment to the sport inspired not only me but countless others. Doreen’s unwavering passion and leadership were cornerstones of our community, and her legacy will forever be remembered and cherished. Her love for netball, from her early days with the Albion Netball Club to her lifetime of service in numerous committees, roles, and even being honored with the Queen’s Service Medal, speaks volumes of her dedication. But beyond all the accolades, it was Doreen’s heart and her ever-present warmth that will be missed the most. She brought people together and always had a way of making everyone feel valued. The Dunedin Netball community will never be the same without her, but we will continue to honour her legacy by carrying forward the love and passion she had for the game. Rest in peace, Doreen.
