On May 8, 2025, peacefully at home, after a courageous fight, but with a positive attitude, surrounded by his loved ones, including the dogs Bumble and Tui; aged 57 years.
Loved husband and best friend of Trudy Hutchison, cherished 'David' of Daniel and Liana, Hannah and Blake, and adored 'Poppa' of Rudy. Beloved son of Jenny and the late Neil McArthur (Alexandra), loved and respected big brother of Nigel and Tracy, Martin and Michelle, loved uncle of Ben and Abi, Finn and Emma. Loved brother-in-law of Ross and Lynda Hutchison, the late Stuart, and the late Suzanne. loved uncle of Sam and Lisa, Ben and Kirby, and James and Kumudu.
Gone to fix the gates of heaven
A celebration of David's life will be held in the Taieri Rugby Clubrooms, 35 Reid Avenue, Mosgiel, at 2pm on Friday, May 16, followed by private cremation. In lieu of flowers donations to the Cancer Society would be appreciated and may be left at the service. Messages are welcome on David's page below where a livestream of the service may also be viewed.

David, you were a star! I cannot think of a better role model than you, and your love and care will be carried on by Trudy, Daniel and Hannah. I loved how straight forward you were. No messing about. Just said it how it was. I remember one works do and I was a sober driver. Needless to say, the more beer you drank, the funnier his stories became. I am sad also that I did not get to spend more time with you and your beloved dogs Jess and Bumble. I know that Trudy and your whole family will be missing you so much. You were a top bloke and I am privileged to have met you.
We are so sad to read of David's death. Unfortunately didn't find out about it in time to be able to join you today to celebrate his life. He lived his life to the fullest and loved his family very much. What a character he was and we know that he and Neil will be having a few laughs in heaven.
