WYETH, Christine Mary (née Young). Peacefully, after a courageous and graceful battle with cancer, at Karitāne, on August 16, 2025; aged 74 years. Treasured daughter of William* and Joyce Young* (née Wither) of "Carfax", Mossburn, and sister and sister-in-law of Anthony and Carol Young (Cromwell), Jan Baird (Wānaka), Eric and Denise Young (Melbourne), and Liz Young (Cromwell), and her many nieces and nephews. Beloved wife of Roger Wyeth for 51 years and cherished mother and mother-in-law of Emma Wyeth and Mike Stevens (Dunedin), and Angus Wyeth and Noa Dagan (Nelson, British Columbia). Beloved Granny of Kura, Atanui, and Tūhiku Stevens. (*denotes deceased).
Chris was loved and respected by all who knew her, especially colleagues at St Margaret's College, Christchurch, where she taught for nearly 30 years. The whānau thanks the exceptional staff at Dunedin Public Hospital, especially oncologists Dr Chris Jackson and Dr Vanessa Durandt, for their dedicated and professional care over the last 15 months. Chris is laying in state at home, 1290 Coast Road, Karitāne, and friends are encouraged to visit.

Kua hinga te tōtara i Te Waonui-a-Tāne - a mighty tōtara has fallen in the great forest of Tāne. Chris is remembered for her grace and wisdom, her calm manner, her pride in St Margaret’s College (SMC), and her deep love for community. Her 30 years of service to SMC concluded in 2020, yet she remains woven into the heart and soul of our school, and into the lives of the generations of girls who had the privilege of her guidance. Chris was faith, hope and love personified. All of us at St Margaret’s College will serve Chris’ legacy as best we can, adding our mahi to the enduring impact of her life and work among so many. To Roger and your whānau - aroha mai, aroha nui kia koutou.
Jan’s Wednesday ladies walking group send our condolences to you Roger and your family. We enjoyed Chris’s company on our walks and missed her greatly when she was no longer able to join us. We were thrilled at this time when she was able to join us for a coffee.
Thinking of you Roger and your family at this sad time. Chris was an amazing lady and I enjoyed getting to know her and having those cup of teas together in the time you have been back in Karitane.
