Our beautiful and precious Mum, and the world’s greatest Nanny, passed away on the August 15, 2026, surrounded by love.
Beloved Mum to Tracey, and Lisa, their partners John, and Donovan, and adored Nanny to Carys, and Neala. Daughter of the late John and Ngaire Bailey of Waimate, sister to Janette and Nick Abbott, and Stephen and June Bailey, and the late Glen Bailey. Loving aunt, niece, cousin, and treasured friend to many.

A celebration of Christine’s life will be held at Glenfalloch, Portobello Road, at 11.00am, on Monday August 24, followed by private cremation for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Otago Community Hospice would be appreciated , and may be left below.

Sincerest condolences to all Chris' family. I have so many fond memories of her days as hospital librarian. She was always so warm, welcoming and helpful. Those were the days before everything became online. We used to have great chats and I heard so much about the family. She was so proud of you and loved you all so much. Apologies i hadnt heard the sad news of Chris' passing until now as i was reading an old newspaper and came across the death notice. Rest in peace Chris, a beautiful lady i had the pleasure to meet when I worked in the hospital. Warm regards Martina
Dear Tracey, Lisa and families, it was with much sadness I learned about Chris's passing while I was on holiday in Australia. I just wanted to offer my condolences to you all and say that I really enjoyed working with Chris. We used to have weekly coffees together and catch up on work business, and we also had several trips to Invercargill together where we would dine out after work, have a couple of Sav Blancs and "put the world to right"! She was a lovely lady with a heart of gold and I know how much she cherished you all. I'm so sorry for your loss as I know this will leave a huge gap in your lives. So very sorry to hear about Chris, having chatted to her last month re a WHS class of '67 reunion she was unable to attend. Our friendship goes back to Centennial Primary School days and after school play dates at Ngaire and John's house. We shared a birthday which was often problematic when it came to party invites. Such a lovely, gentle gal with great siblings. I can just imagine her Granny prowess and the gap she leaves in all your lives. Kia kaha everyone.
I was very sad to hear of Christine's passing. My sympathy goes out to all the family. Christine was a friend all through primary and high school. She was a lovely, friendly and smiley person.

Condolences to Christine's family I met Chris in 1991 when she took over the staff library at DPH She turned a lack lustre department in to a thriving area Nothing was too much for her if one requested a textbook or article She was a very efficient librarian. RIP Chris. Pat Ingram
