On Saturday, March 7, 2026, as the result of an accident while doing what he loved; aged 24 years.
Dearly loved son of Steve Rate and Cathy Hewitt, a much loved grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. Calum, we will miss you so very much. Family wish to thank the first responders and emergency services for their care of Calum.
A service to celebrate Calum's life will be held in Hope and Sons Chapel, 523 Andersons Bay Road, Dunedin, at 10am, on Saturday, March 21, followed by private cremation. Messages can be left below and a live stream of the service may be viewed.

Dear Calum, Cathy and Steve. I will forever cherish the memories that I have with calum. We spent many days and nights together alone and with friends camping, exploring and doing all the things we loved. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to be there today however will hold those memories dearly.
