I worked beside you with your foresty venture .Still learning more on the way .We enjoyed thousands of cups of tea together. Dear Bruce ... you are with us in spirit now & yes, I shed a tear, many in fact' watching your wonderful send off on live stream with your family & friend's all around you. We never saw much of each other however 2 islands North & South came together from time to time ... but you were a great friend with many talents to your belt & of the same age. Sending my Love to all your family ... & hope they have plenty of jobs up there to keep you Bizzy!
Bruce or to us you were affectionately called 'Bob The Builder' We only met you in Naseby in 2000 Bob while you were building Karen & Graeme Helm's crib but felt like we'd known you forever. An instant friendship with you & later Sharon has left us with some wonderful memories & laughs galore. The hunting, meals, stories big & small, unexpected calls on your way to or from home for a cuppa & endless banter, we will miss it all Bob. You leave a huge hole in our lives but we are grateful to have met you. Say hi to Sharon, RIP buddy. Raeleen & Ossie. Naseby
Dear Bruce, you were energetic and lived life to the full. Always happiest when around people, especially when working on a project. We have spent a lot of time together over the last 35 years on the tools or using chainsaws, chatting and laughing (mostly about trees nearly hitting me when I ran the wrong way). I valued your sober advice, but enjoyed the odd drunken phone chat too. We also had some real battles over connect four and computer games...the time you wiped my high score because you couldn't beat it makes me laugh. Des, Kelly, Tracy and family I am so sorry for your loss. Love Amber, Keith, Ben and Zac
We remember Bruce coming to Tautuku Outdoor Centre, and building "C Block" with his students, when he was the Building Supervisor at Telford, in the late '80s. He was always very good with the Telford apprentices, and other Centre users. Sam also has good memories of catching up when we moved to Waitati in 1994, and Bruce would allow him to scavenge firewood, and spotlight 'possums, on the Bush Property. Our paths haven't crossed in recent years, but his Landcruiser was a good indication of where he was, at any time! . We send out sincere sympathies for your loss. He was a solid and genuine, and hard-working man. May the family find peace and comfort in the many memories people are sharing. RIP, Bruce.
To Des, Kelly ,Tracey and family What a shock to learn of Bruce’s sudden and unexpected passing Lots of good memories of uncle Bruce going back to Taihape days in the central North Island Bruce was a great uncle and a talented and diligent tradesman, we boys all had many good times on the job with him, a hard task master who I learned a lot from. I recall batching concrete at Mossburn during school holidays as a young feller, he cut no slack but was fun to be around with a sharp wit Sadly l can’t be at his service on Friday Sometimes on the way home from work l would pass Bruce, heading to Flag Swamp, l will miss his cheerful wave when l saw him on the road Condolence’s Dean
I'm writing on behalf of OneCoast Resource Recovery, as we were one of the last recipients of Bruce's generosity. Bruce was a regular visitor to our Hub by the Waikouaiti Transfer Station and you could see his builder's mind ticking over as he looked at our inadequate shelter, open to the weather. Finally, he came to us with a proposal. He would design an enclosed shelter front for us, cost the materials we needed to buy, and build it for us. The only thing he asked for in return was that we should maintain a noticeboard where community members could post notes for items they were looking for or wanted to dispose of. He entered into this challenge with great enthusiasm and meticulous planning, confessing to his helpers from the committee how much he loved working on building projects. Our last interaction with him was the weekend before he died, when he met one of us at the recycling bin and immediately moved over to our shelter to present his ideas for an extra extension. Thank you Bruce, our community is going to benefit from your talents and drive for a long time to come. Condolences to all his family. The OneCoast Committee
It was very sad to hear of Bruce's sudden passing. Condolences to all the McLennan family. I will be thinking of you all tomorrow.
Bruce was a competent building manager for the University. After retirement assisted us with building work. Cared for his dog and a singer of note. He was always welcome at our place.
So very sad to hear of uncle Bruce’s passing. Bruce was only two years older than my mother and they were very close. I spent many weekends of my childhood driving down to Dunedin and spending the weekend at Bruce’s with the family. We shared many laughs, great meals, time on the farm and his home was always welcoming. I will be thinking of the family on Friday, especially Des, Kelly and Tracey and will raise a glass to him. Uncle Bruce. May he rest in peace.
So very sad to learn of Bruce's passing. Way too early. He was a fantastic neighbour to us. Such a caring/kind man. We have missed him living next door. His unannouced visits and sharing a few beers with Chris. Heartfelt condolences to Desmond, Kelly and Tracey. Hugs Faye and Chris
It's sad you were taken too early from us. I will miss you dad you've left a big hole to fill. I will never forget you and spend the rest of my life honoring your memory. You were misunderstood and had such a big caring kind heart, always willing to help and for the first person I'd talk to in times of crisis. I'm going to miss our catch up's and hearing your view of the world. I'll do my best to bring your vision for home to reality. Kia kaha
