Brian John McCormack

I remember Brian well as an incredibly gifted Wardrobe and model maker who worked on Play School and his favourite, BidiBidi among many other productions at the Dunedin television studios back in the 80s. He was a very compassionate man.

Fond memories working with Brian at our dance school end of year productions with Helen Bray. Was in awe of his acting abilities as a dance student growing up.

We lost a valued member of our society with the passing of our life member, Brian McCormack. He appeared on stage as well as directing and was truly a set extraordinaire. Brian was a valued and respected member of our theatre whose contributions and presence will be fondly remembered. His dedication and support over the years have left a lasting impact, and he will be greatly missed.

One of the good theatre people gone. A man of great talent who will be missed. Thanks for all your dedication. Condolences to the family.

I was greatly saddened to hear of Brian's passing. I knew Brian through the theatre scene, and most enjoyed his company and dedicated hard work during the production of The Vicar of Dibley with The Taieri Dramatic Society. Brian was always such a softly spoken man, who took the most particular pleasure in ensuring every detail was just right. He had an uncanny knack for finding just the right prop, or creating whatever was required with his own two hands. He was a whizz on the end of a paintbrush and created sets that were glorious to look at. I will always have fond memories of Brian and his enthusiasm for the theatre. Jill muir 13 05 2025, My husband and I and extended Pow Family would like to pass on our deepest sympathy on hearing of Brian,s passing. Brian was my 1st cousin, as my mother was uncle Arch,s sister and sister in law to aunty Ethel. Brian and myself corresponded regularly Brian telling of his next show and his love of drama, the Port Chalmers historical Society and the Maritime museum and all his endeavors, ( an extremely talented man). He was always interested in what was happening on the farm at Edendale we are sorry not to be able to be there to farewell Brian. Always loved and forever remembered, Jill and Ken Muir.

Brian McCormack was a member of the Dunedin Opera Company/Opera Otago from 1968 until his final opera which was in 2008. In that time, he performed Eleven Principal Roles for the Company, but he used his many talents in so many other ways. Brian was creative as a Set and Costume Designer, Programme and Poster Designer, he worked in Publicity, as a member of the Stage Crew and Stage Director. Brian worked in Forty-three Productions all told.

It is with sadness I found out you had passed away at home. Your love for the Maritime Museum was special and your long dedicated service will always remembered by those who had the pleasure to work with you. The last few year's have been difficult with health , so Rest in Peace, Brian
