BERESFORD, Brian Charles
In the early morning of November 13, 2024, at Marne Street Hospital, peacefully after long years of pain and loss; aged 84 years.

Much loved and loving husband of Rosemary, father of Laura, Stuart, and Katherine, granddad of Johnathan, and Sean, and a friend of too many to mention. Special thanks to the many health and other professionals at the Peninsula Medical Centre, Dunedin Hospital's Elder Person's Assessment Unit, Access Health, and Marne Street Hospital who made Brian's last years as easy as possible.

A funeral for Brian will be held in Hope and Sons Chapel, 523 Andersons Bay Road, Dunedin at 2pm on Wednesday, November 20, followed by private cremation. In lieu of flowers donations to Parkinson's New Zealand would be appreciated and may be left at the service.

Messages to Brian's family may be left below where you will also find a link to livestream the service and a link for donations for Parkinson's New Zealand.

Much love to Rosemary at this time of remembering Brian. You both worked as a successful team in so many ways. Notably, in the late 1990's, you provided a kick-start to the overall renaissance of the Globe Theatre: Rosemary's organisational skills led to the repair and restoration of the Globe; Brian provided his ongoing performance skills to mounting successful productions with Committee input. Multi-talented in all things theatrical, Brian loved to plan and direct productions, and act in them, too - he was a master of stagecraft. His creativity was reflected in the many production posters he designed; in his attention to set decor; and especially in his set designs - memorably, the collapse of the bunker in "Journey's End" being a standout. The evolving designs of the Foyer, too, saw Brian's stamp. Undoubtedly, The Globe Theatre had a true "Friend" in Brian, but his legacy lives on We will miss him.

Deepest sympathy to Rosemary, Laura, Stuart, Katherine and family. As a child, Uncle Brian always seemed a lovely larger than life character, and will always remember the beautifully worded card he sent us when our Dad died. Sending hugs and love. xx "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened."

Rosemary and I are cousins, our mothers having been sisters. I I live in Australia and visited Rosemary and Brian Christmas 1978. This was the first time I'd met Brian and I hadn't seen Rosemary for many years. Rosemary asked me if I would bring a "walkie-talkie set" as Christmas presents for Laura and Stuart as they were not available in New Zealand. We wanted to test them out first to make sure that they were working. So Brian and I headed to a beach with Laura and Stuart, sent them off to build sandcastles while Brian and I walked a considerable distance from each other to test them out. Happily they worked. New Year's Eve, when I turned off the cold water tap while having a bath, the tap came away in my hand and water gushed from the wall. Brian did not want to call a plumber as he said the rates would be double time at least, so instead he climbed on to the roof and turned off the water himself, turning it into an amusing episode, maybe to make me feel better about the whole thing. 😟 Love and condolences to all the family.
