Peacefully on August 8, 2024, at St Andrew's Home and Hospital, with family by his side; aged 82 years.
Dearly loved husband of the late Pamela, much loved father and father-in-law of Paul and Isabelle, Stephanie and Steve, Christopher and Mandy, Garth and Bindy, cherished grandad of Matthew, and Ben; Brendan, and Cam; Blake, Ryan, and Lucas; Dear friend of Heather, loved brother of Cliff, Fay, and Philip, loved uncle to his nieces and nephews.
A farewell for Barry will be held in Hope and Sons Chapel, 523 Andersons Bay Road, at 2:00pm, on Monday August 12, followed by private cremation. Messages to the Hassall Family C/- P.O Box 5013, Dunedin 9054, or leave a message below, likewise access the livestream below.

Remembered with much affection. Barry was my colleague and mentor at TTHS Science Dept. Patient, gentle, a wonderful scientist and intelligent human being, you had an unremarked but significant positive effect on students and colleagues alike.
Extending our deepest sympathy to you all. We were Barry's Kaiapoi cousins. Helen, Janice and Tom.
Thinking of all the family. Barry was a great colleague - always willing to listen and a small nod of understanding was a huge comfort at times of stress in the workplace. I have no doubt he was a fantastic Dad and Grandad and he will be missed greatly.
I extend most sincere condolences to Barry's family on behalf of my twin brother, Don, and me. Barry is our second cousin. We did not have much contact with Barry during our primary school years but that changed when all three of us started our third form year at Rangiora High School in 1955. I well remember all of the 3rd form being assembled on our first day when each pupil was asked to stand when his/her name was called. When B Hassall was called both Barry and I stood and it took a while for the teachers to sort us out. All three of us were put in the same 3A class. Barry and I played hockey in the school first Xl . I will be thinking of you all as you reflect on Barry’s loving and long life. Pam and Barry were our second home and were such a huge and loving presence in our lives. It is hard to comprehend the last of our parents are now gone but they all live on through us. With love, Lynn
Condolences to all the extended family at the passing of Barry. He was one of our groomsmen when we were married in Auckland in 1965. Barry and I were the only pupils who studied Chemistry for School Certificate at Rangiora High School, 1957. We played hockey together, but Barry kept playing long after I retired. When I rang Barry in the New Year I felt he was positive and seemed to have his health under control, although we agreed that we were both slowing down.
