Born June 4, 1947 in Paisley, Scotland, and died peacefully, at home in Dunedin, on October 30, 2024 with family and friends by her side.
Loved Mum of Michelle, and Scott, Mum-in-law of Jimmy, and Nic', Grandma of Macleay, Marnie, and Farrah; and Arlo. Sister and sister-in-law of Tom* and Glenyss Wilson, Sandra and Phil Burlingham. (*denotes deceased).
Barbara was a hugely loved friend of many and she was enormously grateful for the support she received during her illness. Special thanks to dearly loved friends Gareth and Heather who attended all the chemotherapy and related appointments with her, and to all those lovely friends who supported her in so many ways - Aunty Roz, Jeanette, Lorey, Maurice, Garry, and Sandra to name just a few. We thank you so very much. Barbara was a beautiful, brave, kind, lady with an envied sense of humour.
Sincere thanks from Barbara and family to Dr Brent Wishart and the team at Roslyn Medical Centre, Dunedin Hospital Oncology, in particular Dr Louise Bremer, and the Otago Community Hospice, for their tender care and support of Barbara.

Miss our visits Barbara, you're smiley face and bright eyes especially - Wednesdays are not the same! Time is a thief, feels like just yesterday I stopped in yet a month has passed by, I truly hope you've found the peace and comfort you deserve. Thank you for welcoming me in, our chats, laughs and everything in between. To support you was a blessing, grateful for our times together over the years, rest well xox
We are friends from long ago, sending our condolences from Canada. Marcia met Barbara in the Maternity ward, during a payroll run for the Wellington Hospital Board. Brent and John worked at Social Welfare (Dunedin, Wellington, Upper Hutt). We actually had Christmas at their home in Totara Park. (Michelle's first). Barbara was an exceptional person who we easily connected with. After we moved to Canada, we exchanged Xmas cards for some years. In our card of 1978 we announced that we'd had our first child. Barbara wrote back in her card "Snap! We had a Scott too!" Brent's family is still in Christchurch and when we visited, we met up with Barbara whenever we could. The last time was February 2019 in Dunedin. We arranged to meet at our motel on George Street and the hours went by quickly. Special friends just seem to click. We were unaware of her illness. Our hearts are heavy that she has passed. It was wonderful to know her. Cherish the Memories. Love, Marcia & Brent
