Averill Joan Barrington

I would like to send my deepest Sympathy to all your family. I was employed at freedom Wigs by Averill & Murray as these were certainly the best times ever ....We were certainly trained by just the best Averill Murray and was also a privilege to get to learn how to make the amazing wigs in the World. I have so me any great memories of you Averill right back from. Working with you at. Harraways Flour mill many years back ..And then working for you & the lovely Murray you were both just the Best Employers anyone could ask for! you certainly looked after all your staff everyone got treated the same .. I have certainly taken away so many great memories of the Freedom family as it was Called back then . Averill you were such a beautiful lady who l will never forget your very generous,kind caring and always there if we needed to speak about anything to ..Your beautiful legacy lives on that you and Murray created also and with this you will never be forgotten.R.l.P Averill ... My deepest Sympathy to all the family, treasure your memories of you dear mum .x💞 .

I’m so sorry for your loss. Though I never had the chance to meet Averill she and her husband have changed my life and many other ladies who are lucky enough to be able to have access to Freedom Wigs. Thank you for giving us back our femininity, confidence and freedom to live a normal life again. Rest In eternal peace

A lasting memory... when I was about seven or eight. Auntie Averill took me to Arthur Barnett’s in Dunedin, it was just the two of us, it seemed special... We were to pick out my birthday present. When we got to the toy section, she told me I could have anything I wanted. 😲 Nobody had ever said that to me before. I took my time and picked out an amazing toy camera that transformed into a gun with lights and sound effects the works... It was awesome. ​More recently, I have fond memories of staying with her in Brighton, it always felt so comfortable and homely. I recall shooting rabbits off the deck, chatting and looking at photos of Stella and Gus, and listening to her talk about them with so much joy and pride. She made me feel completely welcome and at home. ​Thank you for being so generous and kind. ​Love, Rhyce

Dearest Averill, I will never forget the time my daughter and I stayed with you and Murray back in 2011. You took us on the most wonderful trip around the South Island, and those memories will stay with me forever. I like to imagine you and Murray reunited once again, together above the clouds. Today we say a very sad goodbye to a very special lady. I was so privileged to be part of their 'Freedom' family. Averill & Murray were two of the most compassionate & humble people, always there to support & encourage you & made you feel you were doing good in this world. Averill was a kind giving soul, always there to listen, help guide those in need & always with a smile. Words are so inadequate to sum up this loving, caring, tenacious intelligent woman who gave her all & achieved so much. To her family I send my heartfelt deepest condolences. Averill and Murray were two of the kindest people I've ever known. We (my husband Don and I) met them through Freedom Wigs but we were friends beyond that. We visited them in NZ and they visited us here in the US. Despite not having spent more than several days together physically, we both feel Averill's loss as deeply as if we were neighbors. I'm SO sad for her children and grandchildren who should have had many more years with her - and with Murray. She will be missed by so many of us but for Don and I, the loss feels very real and extremely sad.

Today we say goodbye to a truly beautiful soul,averill. You had the biggest heart and gave so much of yourself to others. Through the wigs you lovingly made for people with alopecia you gave far more than hair-you gave confidence, hope,and the strength to face each day with a smile. The kindness,compassion, and love you shared touched so many lives, and your legacy will on every person you helped. Thank you ,Averill,for making the world a kinder place.you will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten, Rest peacefully. ❤️
